Hot Topic:
Nutrition for gymnasts-Clinician, Joan Hare gave the membership an excellent
presentation on nutrition.
Financial Report: We will be "in the red" after sending the
Illinois team to the National meet in Las Vegas. Marv has offered to cover
extra expenses personally as he did last year.
Fundraising projects suggested for next year:
50/50 raffle -seems to be easy, if coaches would take the time to run it
at home meets or invitationals.
golf outing- would someone care to organize this event?
carthweel a thon- association would pick a date and encourager all schools to
participate.
carwash??
Officers for next year: President: Sue Fosco, Niles North; Vice
President: Victoria Otto, Highland Park; Janine Shinn, Conant HS; Marv Blustein,
Lyons Township HS.
Discussion- requiring attendance in order to nominate gymnasts for senior
gymnast etc. Voted no, too many other obligations for coaches.
TV/video from state meet: waiting to hear from Mike White, Sandburg HS.
State Meet Final Proposal: After much discussion the association does not
have a clear cut choice between the two formats offered. The association
needs to have a clear cut majority before going to the IHSA.
Mixed Pairs Meet:16 pairs had a great time and we THANK NILES NORTH for
hosting this meet. They do a terrific job! We had a very difficult
time getting participants to compete for a variety of reasons. Hopefully
next year we can have more discussion with the boys association about this
event.
Hall of Fame Banquet: Our inductees, Priscilla Gilroy-Green, Elizabeth
Mahar, and Bob Todd all expressed their appreciation to the association and had
an enjoyable evening, along with a big turn out to honor them. Thanks to
Al Galatte for the great food.
Asst. Coach of the Year: We need to improve communication with
assistant coaches. Many asst. coaches nominated were not in attendance at
the banquet.
Lake Geneva Retreat: information will be sent
National Team:6 girls and 2 alternates were selected at the meeting for
the National HS Meet in Las Vegas over Memorial Day weekend. Certified
letters were sent to the girls with the most votes with an explanation of what
their responsibilities are to the team. Girls on the Illinois Team
include: Melissa Singer, Krista Lewis, Meme Sadler, Peggy Spinato, Ashley Alden
and Liz Friedman. Our 2 alternates are Heather Neff and Elizabeth Pawula.
The IHSGGCA will only be able to help with some expenses for 2 of the several
coaches expressing a desire to go.
Dupage Valley PE Clinic: Thanks to Hilary Carlson, Janine Shin, Al
Galatte, and Betty Axelson for presenting sessions on gymnastics to expose more
PE teachers to our sport . We need to continue doing this in as many
places as possible to keep gymnastics thriving in Illinois!
THANKS TO OUR OFFICERS THIS YEAR FOR ALL THEIR HELP WITH ALL THE PROJECTS FOR
THE IHSGGCA! BETTY AXELSON- McCLELLAND, SUE FOSCO, MARV BLUSTEIN AND WENDIE POLZ.
THANKS TO ALL OUR MEMBERS FOR A TERRIFIC YEAR. STAY INVOLVED AND MAKE OUR
ASSOCIATION EVEN STRONGER NEXT YEAR.
