Minutes from October 28, 2005

The Girls Gymnastics Coaches Association would like to extend a sincere Thank You to Jim and Meg Stephenson, Co-Head Coaches for the University of Minnesota, for providing a very informative clinic for all the coaches.  Jim and Meg were very generous to share with us their expertise.  All who were in attendance would concur that it was well worth taking the day off from school.  It was a great beginning to the 2005-2006 Girls Gymnastics season.

 The first item on the agenda was addressing the concern of the Hall of Fame Banquet.  Last year’s attendance was extremely poor and the Association needs more participation from it members.

 SUGGESTION TO INCREASE HALL OF FAME BANQUET ATTENDANCE

• Move banquet time to 11:30 -1:30 on Saturday Feb 18^th before State Finals that evening
• Move location possibly to Palatine HS, or to a closer restaurant, or remain at present location

All voting this year will be completed on-line through the IHSGGCA website.  One suggestion for coaches is to add the website to your favorite list and check it weekly for current updates.

Other Updates Suggested

• want to create an archive for Girls Gymnastics
• send all past IL Girls Gymnastics information concerning history to webmaster
• past State Meet results should be put on website was suggested
• be concise and specific in all information sent to webmaster

 IMPORTANT REMINDER: 

• You will not be able to vote for Senior Gymnast of the Year or National Team Members if you are not a member of the Association. 

 FUND RAISING

• Casino Night: Monster success last year.  Looking for the same this year. Dates are yet to be announced, will get them out as soon as possible
• Traveling T-Shirt:  If you are hosting an invitational and are willing to sell Association T-shirts during your invitational please contact Kim Harrier from Prospect.  Her work phone is 847-718-5219.  This was an effective fund raiser for the Association and easy.  
• Cosmic Bowling: scheduled for December 20^th at Brunswick Bowl in Palatine.
• John Brinksworth Scholarship Fund: Perhaps speak to Athletic Director about passing a hat around at your Invitational through the audience or place a donation box at the entrance table.   

CONFERENCE REPS

Conference Reps take care of the Conference Coach of the Year voting. 

An Important Reminder:  Conference Coach of the Year is not eligible for Coach of the Year if he/she is not a member of the Association.

POICY CHANGES:

• Changes to verbiage in the selection process for the National Team.  If you would like to bring suggestion and be a part of the changes please attend the Nov. 28^th Association meetings.

• November 28^th :  Organizational Speaker on college recruiting

            (How to help athletes on your team complete on college teams)

• December 20^th:  Cosmic Bowl team fund raiser 3-5pm
• January 9^th: Regional Seeding Meeting
• January 23^rd: Nominating meeting for Sr. Gymnast. Guest Speaker on Training

(How to do basic tape job when no trainer is available)

• February 19^th: Proposed Hall of Fame Luncheon
• February 21^st: National Team Selection meeting & Election of Officers
• May: National HS All Star Meet

 *A special recognition was extended to Betty for her tireless efforts and passion she has given towards elevating Illinois Gymnastics to the highest level of expertise.  She has dedicated herself not only to the Coaches Association but to the sport of gymnastics in Illinois.  Thank you Betty for all that you have given.
